The Crown Letter Project

The Crown Letter is an online participatory art project created during the first lockdown. It serves as a global open platform for the free expression of women artists—a cartography of time and space that provides a meeting place for a community of shared subjectivities. Kyoko Kasuya was invited to join the project by Natacha Nisic, the collective’s founder, and has been contributing her work since its launch in April 2020.

For The Crown Letter, Kasuya’s photographs, videos, and texts form a compilation of her daily reflections during this unique period, particularly throughout the three lockdowns and curfews. Her work explores themes such as uncertainty, fear, and feelings of abandonment. Today, the project remains ongoing. Even after the pandemic, Kasuya continues to reflect on our daily lives, drawing inspiration from events such as the war between Russia and Ukraine, other social developments, and issues concerning women.
